Animal Welfare Group \u201cSirius\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. It lies in the Canis Majoris constellation. It was given the Greek name \u201cSirius\u201d, meaning \u201cglowing\u201d. According to myth, Sirius was giant Orion\u2019s dog. To us, Sirius is the one that unites us all and gives us the desire and strength to organise a new, fresh and bright Animal Welfare Group that cares for strays in Herakleion and beyond! All of us, ordinary animal-loving people, are volunteering and taking care of strays in our city, trying to find a warm place for them to call home. As we feel that most of the stray animals were kept animals initially, we\u2019re promoting serious and responsible adoption, with new owners ensuring the well-being of their new pets and realising the need to microchip and sterilise them. To us the above facts are key requirements for adopting a pet. We are moving ahead with the vision of ensuring a better life for those creatures, and we invite you all to join us. The purpose of this non-profit society is to plan, implement and advertise actions and ideas contributing to environmental protection and culture promotion, with the emphasis placed on actions on animal welfare by means of activities organised by its members and by promoting partnerships with public and private bodies, individuals and institutions in Greece and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zoforos, through its partnership with the Hellenic Philozoic and Environmental Federation, the largest in its kind in Greece, has prepared a number of scientific, thorough and realistic opinions on matters relating to animals in general (pets, productive animals, working animals, wild fauna) and is struggling systematically to put them in practice, while at the same time striving to implement sustainable solutions for our natural environment (www.pfpo.gr<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zoforos is working together with scientists, intellectuals and politicians who recognise and respect life in all its aspects. It is fighting shoulder to shoulder with people who understand that we humans are not the only creatures with rights on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
